I was asked today to recommend some Android apps to a friend, I
thought I would share here some of the ones I would suggest.

My Tracks

From Posterous Pics

This application makes great use of the Google Maps API and while
active records everywhere you have been. Once you have finished you
can then send the newly created track to Google Maps. This not only
allows you to see the track in finer detail, but allows you to share
the tracks with anyone else. The application also allows you to see
your current trip details like speed, distance travelled and other gps
like data. I found it quite useful.

ATrackDroid

This is a fairly simple application that checks the applications
installed on your Android device, then looks in the App Store for
updates and lets you know when there is a new update. Easy peasy. The
only downside is that you have to manually go in and update the
applications yourself which ends up being like a 6 or 7 click chore.
Still, useful none the less.

Wifi Analyzer

From Posterous Pics

I’ve found this app to be very useful ever since I was having issues
with the wifi back home. Turns out someone else’s router next door was
on the same channel and was interfering with mine. Using this app, I
was apple to see what channel the near by routers were on, how strong
they were and what I should change mine to. If you are having issues
and you have an Android phone, then give this one a shot.

Robo Defence

From Posterous Pics

This game has helped train journeys melt away. The number of times I
have almost missed my stop while playing this on the way home from
work exceeds the number of fingers I have. It’s just a simple basic
tower defence game but it works well on Android and plays very nicely
on my HTC Hero. Theere is a free version and the paid for version is
only a couple of bucks, well worth it in my mind.
